Warrick Help Home

Warrick is a free service which will recover a lost/inaccessible website from several sources: Internet Archive, Google, Live Search, and Yahoo. The Internet Archive has been trying to save a large portion of the Web since 1996, but there are many pieces they have missed. The search engines (Google, Live, and Yahoo) have cached a large amount of the current Web, but they do not have older resources which disappeared over the years. By combining the efforts of these 4 web repositories, we are usually able to recover a fair amount of a lost website.

How To Recover a Lost Website

To recover a lost website, you will first need to provide some basic information like your name, email address, and the website's URL. (We only use your email address to communicate with you about your website recovery; we will never spam you or provide your email address to a commercial third party.) You will then be sent an email and will need to verify the recovery job by accessing the link from the email.

Once you have verified the recovery job, Warrick will recover the website as soon as it can. Other recovery jobs may be ahead of yours, so it could take several days to recover the website. Very large websites will also take a long time to recover since Warrick can only recover on average about 1000 resources per 24 hour period, per job. You can check the status of the recovery job any time by entering the key provided in the email we sent you.

Once the website has been recovered, you will receive an email that will provide you with a link where you can "pick up" your job. When you access the link, you can then download the zipped file which contains the recovered files. You can then unzip them and save them to your computer where you can view them locally. You can make the files accessible from the Web again by posting them to your website or just use the files for your own personal use.

Make a Donation

If you are thankful for getting back your lost website and would like to make a donation (of any amount), please consider giving to the Internet Archive. They are a non-profit organization, so your donation is tax deductible. Plus it's easy to donate on-line using PayPal. If you do make a donation, please inform the Internet Archive that the dontain was prompted by your use of Warrick.

Advanced Users

If you are technically inclined, you can download Warrick and run it from your own computer. This will allow you greater flexibility since you can use many of the options which are not available from our web interface, and you can recover your website immediately since you don't have to wait for anyone else's jobs to complete.
